The kids started school on the 13th of this month and so far we are off to a great start. This year is a year of firsts. Vanessa our oldest (14) has started the 9th grade and is offically a high schooler. (yikes) She was very nervous about high school but by the end of the first 3 days she had adjusted just fine and is actually enjoying it. She is playing volleyball, which she was also nervous about. She wasn't quite sure how she would fit in with the older girls but she gets along with them great and has made many new friends. This year she will be playing with the band at the football games and she is still working hard at the piano. It's hard to believe that I have a high schooler already. It seems like just yesterday I was walking her into school for her first day of Kindergarten. Derrick (12), has started 7th grade and gets to play football this year. Which he has been looking forward to since last school year. So he finally gets to play sports rather then watch his big sister play. He seems to be doing real good. He sure looks grown up in his uniform. He is the second tallest on the team so it's pretty easy to pick him out. I've already had a couple of teachers tell me how much they enjoy having him in thier class. He is such a hard worker when it comes to school. His dyslexia creates a huge challange for him but he works hard and finds ways to deal with it. This year we have a new band teacher and Derrick is looking forward to learning the drums. Hannah started 2nd grade (7), her teacher is also a volunteer firefighter and Hannah brags about that to everyone. Her reading and spelling are really good and she jumps right into her work. She was very nervous about 2nd grade but like Vanessa by the end of the first day she had adjusted just fine. Her teacher already has a collection of the bracelts Hannah keeps sneaking to school. She thinks she needs to look pretty like her big sister. Which of course she does. Hannah is also playing the piano (like vanessa) and doing very well. So I have 1 child in each of the schools which keeps me running around and very busy. I am hoping to serve on the Advisory Council at each school but we will see how that works out. :)
